ESFJ's "emotion that warms the room" is ISTP's point of least resistance. A judgement that is obvious to ESFJ is engraved deep in ISTP as approval or rejection. Augustinavičiūtė called this "one-sided vulnerability". ESFJ does not know it, and only feels they are saying the right thing.
Augustinavičiūtė wrote that there is not enough observational data on the supervision relation. What is known: the supervisor reaches the supervisee's point of least resistance directly; if the signal is positive it is very pleasant, and if negative, even a light one is very unpleasant.

Answering with practical matters does not reach
When ISTP counters with practical remarks, ESFJ keeps warming without minding. ISTP's remarks do not work on ESFJ; ESFJ's heat works on ISTP. A one-way match.
ISTP has one advantage too. Their second, "practical logic", sits above ESFJ's third. When ISTP produces it, ESFJ's role collapses, and ESFJ pushes back with a flood of words. ISTP's first, "sensing that arranges comfort", sits where ESFJ cannot understand, so ESFJ finds ISTP a little mysterious and a little frightening.
