MBTI compatibility chart
16 types × 16 types at a glance

MBTI (16 types) compatibility laid out not as scores but as the 16 relations. Rows are you, columns are the other person. The cell where they cross is your relation; tap it to open the page for that pair, one for each of the 136. Love, friendship, work: every scene starts from this chart.

MBTI compatibility chart (16 × 16)

Cell colour is the colour of the relation. Most relations are symmetric, but supervision and benefit have a direction, so they are written as seen from "your" row (INTJ in the ENFP row is Supervisee; ENFP in the INTJ row is Supervisor).

How to read the 16 relations

Compatibility does not line up in a row. The relation that draws you most strongly at first is sometimes the hardest to keep, and you may spend years with someone who left no impression. So the chart is coloured by kind of relation, not ◎○△.

The four that fit well

Relations in which the fit arises naturally. But the time it begins to work differs for each.

The four that stand close

Relations that are alike, or can move side by side. Where they fit and where it is better to leave things divide.

The four that need distance

Relations whose closeness needs a little design. Decide the distance in advance and all of them last long.

The four with a direction

Relations that only one side feels strongly. In the chart they are written as seen from "your" row.

For love, friendship and work

Compatibility in love
The shapes most often reported as lasting are duality and semi-duality. The strongest pull is conflict and activation, but the former needs distance and the latter needs intervals designed in. The strength of the start and the length of the run are decided separately.
Compatibility as friends
The conversation never stops in mirror and extinguishment; nothing needs explaining in identity and kindred. For a friend to rest with, illusionary is best.
Compatibility at work
Things move when you team up in business and duality. Where roles are clearly ranked, supervision and benefit work too. Sharing the same job tends to break down in super-ego and identity.

Frequently asked

How do I read the MBTI compatibility chart?
Rows are you, columns are the other person. The cell where they cross is the relation between the two of you. Relations with a direction (supervision, benefit) are written as seen from your row. Tap a cell to open the page for that exact pair.
Which MBTI pairings are the worst match?
Not "bad scores" but relations that need distance. Conflict draws you most strongly yet needs more care the closer you get; super-ego stays calm because you do not get close; extinguishment understands each other and then goes separate ways; illusionary is best for resting and unsuited to pushing forward. All of them last long once the distance is decided.
What about two people of the same MBTI type?
That is the identity relation. Things come across without explaining, but the weak spots are the same too, so leave those to someone other than the two of you. Each of the 16 same-type pairs has its own page.
How is this different from the usual ◎○△ charts?
Most charts count how many of the four letters match and turn it into a score. This site gives no score: it overlays how the two handle information and returns which of the 16 relations it is. You learn the kind of fit, not its strength.
What if I do not know the other person's MBTI type?
The partner quiz (8 questions) on the top page judges from behaviour, without the other person answering. If there are two candidates, reading both relations side by side is the quickest way.

MBTI® is a registered trademark of The Myers-Briggs Company; 16Personalities is a service of NERIS Analytics Limited. This site is affiliated with neither. It accepts four-letter types as input, but the judgement and interpretation are its own, based on the 16 socionics relations. The nicknames (Architect, Campaigner and so on) are shown for search convenience.

Pick the two types and go to the relation

Faster than searching the chart. Pick your type and theirs and you get which of the 16 relations it is, and the page for those two. If you do not know their type, the 8-question quiz.
